We are seeking an experienced Head of Development to join our M Renewables team in our Madrid office. This pivotal leadership role is responsible for overseeing the development of renewable energy projects and managing the development team across Spain and Portugal. The successful candidate will drive strategic project initiatives, support business growth, and ensure effective collaboration throughout the organization. 

Your role will encompass:

• Develop and implement strategic plans for renewable energy projects, with a primary focus on solar and battery storage initiatives throughout Spain and Portugal. 

• Lead and manage the development team to ensure the successful execution and delivery of projects, providing guidance and support throughout all project phases. 

• Oversee and monitor the existing pipeline of renewable energy projects, ensuring projects progress to Ready to Build (RTB) status with all risks appropriately managed. 

• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities, developers, and investors, to support and advance project development strategies in Spain and Portugal. 

• Collaborate closely with the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) and Legal teams to facilitate all project development activities. 

• Assist the grid team with planning and land-related matters related to grid connection assets across Spain and Portugal. 

• Lead negotiations related to interconnection agreements with DNOs, TSOs, and Grid Common Infrastructure Joint Ventures. 

• Participate in M&A activities, including both the sale and acquisition of projects within the region. 

• Identify and assess new commercial opportunities within the renewable energy sector in both Spain and Portugal. 

• Review planning documentation for new projects during due diligence processes and coordinate with planning consultants to fulfil planning conditions and submit necessary variations. 

• Prepare and oversee materials submitted to the internal investment committee. 

• Prepare regular reports for both internal and external stakeholders and coordinate with central functions as required. 

• Represent the company at industry events and forums to actively promote and enhance the company’s reputation within Spain and Portugal. 

What you bring to the role:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Business Management, or a related field. 

• At least 5 years of experience in the development of renewable energy projects. 

• Minimum of 2 years in a similar leadership position (essential requirement). 

• Strong leadership abilities, critical thinking, and time management skills. 

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. 

• Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively. 

• Willingness and ability to travel as required for project development and stakeholder meetings in Spain and Portugal. 

• Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is highly desirable; proficiency in English is required.
