We are seeking a Land Agent to secure and manage land opportunities for renewable energy development in Ontario and to coordinate external land agency activities across North America. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Project Development, the Land Agent will identify suitable sites, negotiate option and lease or purchase agreements, and manage relationships with landowners, municipalities, regulators, and other stakeholders with transparency and professionalism.

The Land Agent will help build trust, foster long-term relationships, and support responsible development that delivers meaningful local and Indigenous benefits, ensuring projects are advanced with integrity, accountability, and mutual respect.
This Role will Encompass

Identify and evaluate potential project sites in Ontario based on company screening criteria and strategic development priorities.

Engage with landowners to negotiate land option, lease, easement, and right-of-way agreements that are financially efficient, transparent, and mutually beneficial.

Build and maintain strong, respectful relationships with landowners, local officials, Indigenous communities, and other key stakeholders.

Proactively engage community members, gather feedback, and incorporate local and Indigenous input into project design and siting decisions.

Conduct due diligence on new properties, including title review, encumbrances, zoning, and land-use restrictions.

Participate in strategic discussions with the development team, providing on-the-ground insights into site quality, community sentiment, and deal structures.

Collaborate with developers and internal teams to support early regulatory engagement and permitting strategies.

Represent Metlen with professionalism, honesty, and authenticity, acting as a visible and trusted representative in rural Ontario communities.

Develop creative and meaningful community benefit initiatives that foster genuine goodwill and long-term partnerships.

Maintain detailed and accurate records of all communications, negotiations, agreements, and land-related documentation.

Oversee and coordinate external land acquisition agencies in other Canadian provinces and/or U.S. states as required.

Support project acquisition opportunities by reviewing existing leases, easements, and right-of-way agreements to identify risks, red flags, and key commercial terms.
What you Bring to the Role:

5+ years of land acquisition experience in infrastructure, utilities, or renewable energy, with preference for solar and/or battery energy storage projects.

Proven experience negotiating complex, multi-party agreements with rural landowners and municipalities.

Demonstrated success in building trusted relationships within local communities.

Ability to relate to and earn the trust of rural landowners, community members, regulatory officials, and government agencies.

High level of professionalism, integrity, diplomacy, and respect for all stakeholders.

Strong understanding of Ontario land tenure, title systems, and land agreements.
-
Familiarity with the Ontario Planning Act, municipal zoning and land-use approvals, and environmental permitting processes.

Knowledge of Ontario regulations affecting land acquisition and consultation requirements.

Strong understanding of land characteristics that are attractive or not conducive to renewable energy development, particularly for solar and/or battery energy storage projects.

Strong understanding of agricultural practices in Ontario, including common crops, livestock, growing seasons, and seeding and harvesting windows.

Strategic mindset with the ability to prioritize efforts based on site attractiveness and likelihood of success.

Experience in landowner outreach, relationship management, and maintaining accurate records of communication.

Previous experience with transmission corridor or right-of-way acquisition is highly valued.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate key agreement terms.

Experience and working knowledge of Microsoft tools (including Teams and SharePoint), mapping tools, and land management software.
