Metlen Energy and Metals is seeking a Project Controller to support our M Renewables Division in Calgary, Canada. This is an exciting new role with the opportunity to establish best practices in project accounting, forecasting and preparation of project financial statements and have a hand in building the project accounting team.
This position will report to the Finance Manager, North America and work in day-to-day collaboration with accounts payable and project managers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and finance, excellent analytical skills, and a passion for renewable energy.
Your Role Will Encompass:
- Working side by side with project managers and serve as finance representative on project teams. As projects move through life cycle from development, construction and operations.
- Preparing and maintaining reporting on project costs to-date and accrued commitments in collaboration with project managers.
- Analyze and identify variances between project actuals as compared to budget and update forecasts based on results.
- Review invoices in conjunction with contracts to ensure consistency with payment milestones and terms, prior to approval and follow up with any discrepancies until resolved.
- Coordinate project cashflow forecasting in collaboration with development, construction and operations teams, ensuring forecast receives monthly sign off and approval by related stakeholders.
- Provide project and cashflow related reporting to parent company and construction cost reporting to lenders.
- Preparing financial statements for project entities in compliance with IFRS and act as key point of contact for project entities external audit requests.
- This is a newly established role, and the candidate will be responsible for building out the project accounting team, including proposing and implementing new policies, procedures and software.
- Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes impacting the renewable energy sector.
What You Bring to the Role:
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation with 5-7 years of proven work experience in a related project or finance role, preferably in renewable energy or related industry such as large infrastructure or construction.
- Financial reporting experience under IFRS and track record of successfully working cross functionally with project managers and externally with auditors.
- Intermediate knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams and related Microsoft applications and comfortable adopting new technologies and software.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Exposure working in international environments and/or multi entity environment is considered an asset.
